NIPS seeks to make the tools of peer support broadly available to those seeking to make this a better world. At present, our focus is on recruiting, supporting and empowering those people who are concerned about global warming and either currently or potentially taking action to stop it.
We reach out to get new people active on this issue and encourage and support others to do the same outreach–through one-on-one, in person meetings–following in the peer support tradition of “attraction, rather than promotion.” We know that, in the end, any movement for social change is only as strong as the personal relationships among its members.
We provide emotional support for one another in our activism through one-on-one Listening Turns, monthly small Support Groups and weekend Workshops.
We share information as equals in our monthly Topic Discussion Groups, generating our own agenda.
We encourage each other to take our own decisive steps in our small Action Groups which are formed from our Topic Discussions.
We seek to support and expand existing organizations rather than starting any new ones, although if there is a void, we encourage our members to take action to fill it.
In Classes and Workshops, we seek to eliminate the barriers to cooperating with others which arise from racism, sexism, classism and other forms of discrimination.
We invite you to join us.
